UNION x JORDAN “CLASSIC MATERIAL” COLLECTION
2018年のAIR JORDAN 1から継続的に続けられている UNION と JORDAN とのコラボレーション最新作に、協業史上では初となる AJKO LOW が登場。UNION初号店（ NY）のオープン同年の1989年にリリースされた AJKO （AIR JORDAN KNOCK OFF の略）は当時 AIR JORDAN のディフュージョンモデルとして開発され、80年代後期に花形であった有機的なデザインは当時より INSTANT CLASSIC（＝発表された瞬間に歴史に残る大傑作）とされていた。そんなオリジナルの AJKO HI を称え、今回はキャンバス製に拘ったクラシックキャンバスVer. と UNION EXCLUSIVE としてレザーVer. を展開。スウッシュ部分は脱着可能なベルクロ仕様となっており2カラーの切り替えが可能、更にベルクロのベースにはUN/LAのモノグラムがあしらわれており AJKO LOW の魅力を存分に引き出したオーセンティックでクリーンなデザインで日々のスタイリングに有用な一足となっている。付随するアパレルコレクションはデザインを手掛けたCHRIS GIBBS（クリス・ギブス）が幼少期に BROOKLYN のモールで見掛けていたセットアップのトラックスーツやシンプルにロゴのみを配置したスウェットにジャージなど、80年代当時においてはノームコアとされていたオールドスクールな HIPHOP スタイルからインスパイアを受けたデザイン。CHRIS の一番のお気に入りはコットンベロアの代わりに美しいブークレ（ループ状の糸編み）で再構築した「NOT VELOUR」なベロア・トラック スーツ。その他にも完璧なサイズ感が表現できたというオーバーサイズのコラボロゴ入りニットセーターやシンプルにロゴを配したスウェットやTシャツまでファッションがシンプルであることが革新的であった旧き良き時代を想起させるドープなコレクション内容に。
This year as part of Union's ongoing relationship with Jordan we our proud to introduce the first ever Jordan Brand AJKO low. The minute I saw this shoe I was immediately transported to the late 80’s Era of sneaker history and I knew this shoe was an “instant classic”. So in designing the Union AJKO low, we departed from our usual disruptive designs and leaned into a more classic, clean shoe in order to highlight the indelible nature of this sneaker. We did a classic canvas version to pay homage to the original AJKO hi canvas sneaker that orginally came out in 1989 and for the Union Exclusive we did a leather version. The kicks include a revmovable velcro swoosh to give the wearer the ability to switch colors as well as a hidden UNLA monogram if you take the swoosh off entirely. I hope you feel like we do that these kicks can be part of your daily fit, and can really compliment any style. For the rest of the collection, we tried to lean into the “norm core” fashion sensibilities of late 80’s. I was inspired by the fashion styles I would see as a kid at Albee Square mall in Brooklyn; the matching track suits and simple branded fleece and jersey. This collection harckens to a simpler time, but a dope one. Highlights include a “Not Velour” velour track suit that we reimagined with a beautiful Boucle instead of the traditional velour fabric. We also designed an incredible oversized knit sweater with the colleciton logo knit into the design and of coarse we gave yall the sweatshirts and t-shirt program that is a staple in any collciton of our.
